Open School Students and Competitive Sports
Given that the Open School is a small school, at the inception of the high school program in 1975, the decision was made to forego an athletics budget in favor of funding a robust travel program. But this doesn’t mean that our students don’t participate in organized sports, they do! Each year, Open Schoolers try out and earn spots on junior varsity and varsity teams at schools throughout Jeffco. Since we don’t have an organized sports program, our students are eligible to compete and play for schools that have the teams they want to join. Students should work with their Advisors to start the process of competing or playing for another school within the Jeffco School District.
The only “organized” sport that we routinely offer at Open School is Ultimate Frisbee.
