School Accountability Committee
Circle
Welcome to our Circle - this group serves as the Open School’s School Accountability Committee
In the fall of 1969, a committed group of parents and educators approached Jefferson County Public Schools with an idea for a new kind of school. These individuals came together in the simple belief that they could expect more from their students' education. By “more”, the founding community members sought a school that would pay mind to their child as a whole person, honoring the personal, social, and intellectual development of each individual. The Jefferson County Open School was approved by the school board and opened its doors to students in the fall of 1970, over 50 years ago. Indeed, it is solely the result of parent involvement that the Open School exists. The role of parent involvement has continued to be instrumental in shaping the school during its 50 year evolution. Circle has historically been the primary parent advisory group at the Open School.
Circle is open to ALL Open School community members and is held monthly on the second Wednesday from 5-7 pm in the school library and via Zoom.
Hope to see you there!
